Master of Social Science Research Scholarship NUS
The Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore NUS is inviting applications for one fully funded, two year Master of Social Science M.Soc.Sci Research Scholarship RS. The RS covers tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend for two years, beginning August 2026. The scholarship is funded by a Social Science and Humanities Research Fellowship SSHRF for a project titled “After Victory: Governance Outcomes, Political Stability, and Institutional Reform in East and Southeast Asia.” The successful student will assist the Principal Investigator, Assistant Professor Elvin Ong, in research under the Graduate Assistantship Programme, and must undertake their thesis research on Taiwanese politics or Japanese politics.

Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed on Zoom by 15 January 2026.
Qualified candidates will be asked to submit the official application by 22 January 2026.
Scholarship commences August 2026.

University graduates with at least Second Upper Class Honours or equivalent in Political Science or related disciplines (Economics, Sociology, Asian Studies).
Excellent reading, writing, and conversational English language skills.
Natively fluent or near natively fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, or Japanese.
Must propose an M.Soc.Sci thesis that fits broadly within the PI’s research agenda.
Prior knowledge and experience using R is preferred but not required.
