Multicultural Youth Network

Multicultural Youth Network

The Multicultural Youth Network (MYN) is a youth advisory body convened by the Victorian Multicultural Commission that brings together up to 20 young people aged 18 to 25 from multicultural and multifaith backgrounds across Victoria. The Network provides a formal mechanism for young people to contribute lived experience, community insight, and policy-relevant perspectives on issues affecting multicultural youth to government decision-makers.

The opportunity is designed for young Victorians who live, work, or study in Victoria and who have strong connections to multicultural communities. Members are expected to demonstrate a clear commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and participation for multicultural young people, as well as an understanding of the social, cultural, and systemic issues impacting their communities. Prior experience in leadership, advocacy, community engagement, or advisory roles is beneficial but not required.

MYN operates as an advisory and consultative forum. Members participate in structured meetings, consultations, and collaborative discussions to identify emerging issues, provide feedback on government initiatives, and develop practical recommendations. The focus areas typically include social cohesion, civic participation, access to services, representation, and systemic barriers faced by multicultural young people in Victoria.

Through participation, members gain experience in government advisory processes, policy engagement, and cross-cultural collaboration. Intended outcomes include stronger youth-informed policy advice, improved government understanding of multicultural youth experiences, and increased capacity of young people to engage confidently in civic and public decision-making spaces.
