What is Opportune?
Opportune is a youth-led, volunteer-powered platform on a mission to make opportunities visible, accessible, and achievable for young people.
Our mission is simple: bridge the gap between undiscovered talent and the opportunities they deserve. We believe talent shouldn’t be hidden by lack of access. That’s why we connect young people with internships, jobs, volunteering, mentorships, grants, and programs from purpose-driven organisations, all in one central, youth-tailored platform.
Our mission is to close the visibility gap between capable young people and the pathways that can shape their futures. Unlike generic job boards, Opportune is built for early-career professionals. We cut through the noise, currate every listing, and make it easy to find opportunities that align with your skills, ambitions, and values.
Opportune isn’t just a platform, it’s a movement to ensure every young person, regardless of background or network, has a fair shot at leading, and career growth.
Your talent matters. Your future matters. And we’re here to help you step into both.

If there’s one question I’ve been asked more than anything else, it’s this:
“Where do you even find all these opportunities?”
From scholarships and delegations to internships and youth forums, I’ve spent years navigating early-career pathways in the impact space. And one thing became obvious: young people aren’t held back by a lack of ambition, they’re held back by a lack of access.
I’ve always believed success happens when preparation meets opportunity. But what does preparation matter if you’re ready and the opportunities never reach you?
Again and again, I saw the same gap: the people already in the room keep getting invited back, and the people trying to break in don’t even know the room exists. The information is out there but it’s scattered, invisible or locked behind networks that most young people don’t have.
And being involved in the sector myself, I started seeing it from the other side too.
Most impact organisations can’t afford to post on traditional job boards. Listing a single role can cost hundreds or thousands, money that, for a not-for-profit, comes directly out of program funding and impact work. So the roles never get advertised widely. Young people don’t see them. Organisations don’t reach fresh talent. Everyone loses.
That’s why I started Opportune.
We curate opportunities that are relevant, values-driven and actually reachable, internships, jobs, volunteering, grants, leadership programs and pathways that young people can realistically step into.
Opportune isn’t just a list, it’s a youth-led access ecosystem built on visibility, community, and momentum. We share what we find, open doors for each other and make sure no one misses out just because they weren’t “in the loop.”
Because no one gets anywhere alone, and everyone deserves a fair shot at something they’re built for. That’s Opportune: a platform closing the gap between youth potential and impact-sector possibility.
FAQs

Opportune is a youth-led, volunteer-powered, not-for-profit making opportunities in the impact sector visible and accessible to young Australians. We curate internships, jobs, grants, programs, volunteering roles and leadership pathways from purpose-driven organisations.
We do this because too many young people miss out on impact careers—not from lack of ability, but because the pathways are hidden behind networks, paywalls or outdated systems. At the same time, organisations struggle to reach youth talent because traditional job boards charge posting fees that can cost up to $3,000, money that should be going toward impact, not advertising.
Opportune exists to close that gap and connect young people with the opportunities and organisations shaping the future.
-
We support young people aged roughly 16 - 30 who want to build experience, networks or careers in areas like social impact, policy, advocacy, community development, sustainability and the broader not-for-profit space. But impact isn’t limited to those sectors, the ecosystem also relies on people in finance, tech, communications, law, design, strategy and more. Whatever your field, there’s a pathway to create impact, and we help make those entry points visible.

Most job platforms charge organisations hundreds to thousands of dollars to post a single listing, which prices out non-profits and impact organisations. They also rarely prioritise youth-specific pathways.
Opportune removes that barrier entirely. We’re free, impact-focused and fully curated. Every listing is selected for its relevance to early-career candidates, accessibility and alignment with social purpose. -
Yes, exploring opportunities on our website is completely free.
However, for those who want an extra boost, we offer an optional monthly newsletter for $5, about the price of a coffee. It includes deadline reminders, new opportunities delivered straight to your inbox, and directly supports the ongoing work of a youth-led non-profit. Access stays free either way.

Our work is designed for young people in Australia, but that doesn’t mean the opportunities stop at the border. Many of the roles we feature include international placements, hybrid options, overseas internships or global pathways that Australians can apply for from wherever they are.
We’re also mindful of international students based in Australia and regularly include opportunities that are open to them. For roles designed specifically for international students, we recommend checking out our friends at stintcommunity.com.au, they’re doing incredible work in that space.

You can follow us on social media, subscribe to our newsletter for $5 a month or check in regularly for new listings and volunteer roles. We post updates across multiple channels so young people and organisations can engage in the way that suits them.
