    About the Role

    Our people are at the heart of Opportune’s work. As Director of Human Resources, you’ll lead our people and culture function, ensuring every volunteer has the clarity, support, and tools they need to thrive.

    You’ll oversee the full volunteer lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to engagement and offboarding, while maintaining strong HR systems, inclusive policies, and a healthy, values-driven team culture.

    This is a volunteer leadership role, offering the chance to shape the culture, structure, and people practices of a national, youth-led initiative.

    Location: Remote (Australia-based preferred)
    Time Commitment: 10–15 hours/week, flexible
    Reporting to: Executive Director
    Status: Not currently recruiting but expressions of interest welcome

    Key Responsibilities

    Volunteer Lifecycle Management

    • Coordinate all stages of the volunteer journey, from recruitment and onboarding to engagement and offboarding

    • Maintain accurate volunteer records, role descriptions, and contact databases

    • Manage succession planning to ensure continuity in key roles

    Culture & Engagement

    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and values-driven team culture

    • Organise regular check-ins, team updates, and recognition initiatives

    • Act as a first point of contact for volunteer concerns or support needs

    Policies & Compliance

    • Develop, implement, and update safeguarding, conduct, and grievance policies

    • Ensure compliance with relevant volunteer management and workplace legislation

    • Maintain clear, accessible HR and policy documentation for the team

    Capacity & Planning

    • Work with the leadership team to forecast volunteer needs and align roles with organisational priorities

    • Support role creation, restructuring, or recruitment drives based on project needs

    Collaboration & Governance

    • Contribute to strategic discussions on people and culture at the leadership level

    • Attend team meetings, planning sessions, and governance discussions as required

    What We’re Looking For

    • Passion for youth empowerment and purpose-driven work

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

    • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion

    • Experience in HR, volunteer management, facilitation, or people leadership (welcome but not essential)
