ITU AI Skills Coalition

ITU AI Skills Coalition

The AI Skills Coalition is a global capacity-building initiative led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under its AI for Good Impact Initiative, designed to democratise access to artificial intelligence education and skills development. The Coalition functions as an open, trusted platform that consolidates high-quality training resources, self-paced courses, webinars and workshops contributed by a diverse range of partners including UN agencies, industry leaders and academic institutions. Its purpose is to address the widening global AI skills gap by providing accessible AI learning opportunities to individuals and organisations across sectors, including business leaders, policymakers, educators, researchers and students.

A core focus of the Coalition is inclusivity, with targeted efforts to empower learners from developing and least developed countries and underrepresented groups such as women, youth and marginalised communities. Training materials span foundational AI concepts, generative AI, machine learning and the application of AI for sustainable development, enabling participants to build competencies that are relevant to both technical and non-technical roles. Resources are offered in accessible formats and tailored to diverse learning needs, with some advanced certification options available at affordable rates.

Intended outcomes include strengthening global AI literacy, enabling equitable participation in the AI-driven economy, fostering cross-sector collaboration in AI education and supporting governments and organisations to leverage AI responsibly for sustainable development. The Coalition exemplifies a coordinated global response to ensure that opportunities in the AI era are widely shared rather than concentrated among a few.
