Girls in Politics Initiative Camp Parliament for Youth Melbourne 2026

Camp Parliament for Youth Melbourne 2026 is an in-person civic education and leadership program designed for girls and boys aged 8–11 and 12–17 who are interested in learning how Australia’s parliamentary system operates. The program introduces participants to the structure and history of Australian government, the role of elections, eligibility requirements for standing for office, and the function of political parties, with a strong emphasis on civic participation and democratic values. Participants also explore the contributions of women who have shaped political history, alongside broader discussions of representation in government.

Through a hands-on model parliament format, each participant creates a campaign platform, stands for office, votes in a simulated election, and forms part of a government. Students serve as Members of Parliament, collaborate with peers, debate ideas, and work together to draft, discuss, and pass a bill in a simulated parliamentary session. The program is designed to build practical skills in public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, and informed decision-making.

Camp Parliament for Youth is non-partisan and delivered by experienced instructors with backgrounds in government, electoral politics, and education. The program provides a structured, supportive environment for young people to develop confidence, deepen their understanding of democratic processes, and engage meaningfully with civic life.
